This Washington mountain elopement was one for the books. When we first talked with Katie and Josh and they told us where they wanted to get married we instantly got excited. We couldn’t tell you how excited we were to return to this breathtaking location in the mountains of Washington for Katie and Josh’s adventure elopement.
The Location They Chose For Their Washington mountain elopement
Katie and Josh chose a hike in the North Cascades that had a special place in their hearts. And as it turns out, this is now becoming a special place for us as well. They both love the mountains and this was a perfect location for the two of them to exchange their vows for their mountain elopement.
Along with ourselves, the couple brought two other people with them. First, their good friend and Mountaineer to officiate their wedding. It seemed a North Cascades Adventure Wedding was what he was born to do. And second, Katie’s sister who was an integral part of the day. This was Katie’s sister’s first time to the PNW. It was so fun seeing her smile at every tree and every mountain. We are pretty darn fortunate to call a place like this home
The Wedding
Katie and Josh are both outdoor enthusiasts. A mountain elopement just made sense for them. This 14-mile round trip hike that this destination required was easy peasy for them! We started the day when we met Katie and Josh at the cabin they were getting ready in. We then caravaned to the trailhead where we packed up our bags to start the hike up the mountain for their adventure wedding. The exact location they were going to get married was still undecided. We hiked and hiked until we found the perfect location for them to say their vows.
Katie and Josh got dressed separately, hiding behind a couple of large rocks so they could not see each other. Once they were both ready, they shared their first look as Katie was walking down the “aisle”. The ceremony was so intimate and heartfelt (all 6 people in attendance were crying, including us). Katie and Josh then took turns reading letters that were written by their loved ones.
We wrapped up the evening of this North Cascades mountain elopement with a very emotional mountain top first dance followed by some epic portraits of the two of them. It was pretty darn cold but the skies were clear and we had an amazing sunset. Of course, we took advantage of the glowing mountain sky for their portraits.
Not a detail was missed by the couple. Such a simple concept but done very very well. The amazing couple and this gorgeous evening took our breath away. Another Adventure Wedding in the North Cascades we will never forget.
Be sure to scroll ALL the way to the bottom of this post. The light in the mountains just kept getting better and better. You will not want to miss those photos.

Katie & Josh’s GIF Video
This marmot was extra friendly. He was hiking along with us for quite a ways. We even stopped to take a selfie with him/her. It was probably one of our favorite selfies of all time.
Getting ready for their mountain elopement
After finding the perfect location to say their vows. Katie and Josh separated to get ready for the most epic North Cascades Adventure Wedding. While they had been together on the trail all day, Katie and Josh wanted to do a more traditional first look as Katie came down the aisle.
A FIRST DANCE YOU’LL NEVER FORGET
Katie and Josh shared one of the most beautiful first dances we have ever witnessed. There were 6 people, 12 eyeballs watching and not a single one of them was dry!!! Nothing quite like sharing a meaningful moment together all whole enjoying the amazing mountain view.
SUNSET WEDDING PORTRAITS
We couldn’t believe our eyes. As the sun continued to set, the views became better and better. The sunset portrait time made this North Cascades adventure wedding even more magical.
They put their own spin on the traditional wedding “cake cutting”. Katie and Josh packed homemade Z bread (zucchini bread) that they fed to each other before they changed back into hiking gear and headed back down the mountain.
A huge huge thank you to Katie and Josh for allowing us to be a part of their wedding day. This North Cascades adventure wedding was definitely one we will never forget. Let’s all go back and hike this again for your 10 year anniversary, okay?
