Lake Wenatchee State Park Engagement Session

Lake Wenatchee Engagement Session

When Megan and Nick inquired about their wedding, we all immediately hit it off. I love connecting with couples that I immediately have a friendship with. They were fun loving, down to earth and so dang excited about planning their August wedding!

We took our time throwing around ideas for their engagement session. They knew that they wanted a winter theme, since their wedding would be in the Summer. We had so many options to choose from. Being in the Seattle area, we tend to miss out on a lot of snow, however, it’s only because we’re in a bubble between two mountain ranges. So, in a good winter, all you have to do is drive a couple hours in any direction and you’ll find yourself in fresh white snow!

Most importantly, Megan wanted to find a place that meant a lot to her. So she landed on a Lake Wenatchee engagement session. Megan’s father owns a cabin out there and it turned out to be a very big part of her childhood. We met them at her father’s cabin and prepared for a sunset photoshoot.

Lake Wenatchee is a glacier lake, located in the Wenatchee National Forest, in Chelan. We love this area because in the summer it is the perfect spot for jet-skiing, boating or just relaxing on warm, sandy beaches. But in the winter, it is a winter wonderland! It is just miles outside Leavenworth, the classic, Bavarian style town, famous for it’s Christmas celebrations. It’s also the perfect, peaceful place to unwind and reset. As photographers, we are always looking for a winter oasis to put our feet up after busy wedding seasons. We may just need to add this to the list. Nick and Megan’s Lake Wenatchee engagement session was, in a word, Fun! They are such a fun loving, free spirited couple. Megan wore a cozy green sweater, and Nick wore a neutral flannel. At one point they wrapped up in a cozy, warm aztec blanket. We had a perfect amount of snow to satisfy their winter look, but not to much that we were soaking up to our knees!

The sun peaked out during the perfect sunset that felt like it was just for us. We adventured around the lake. We started out in the woods, playing the sunset peaking through the trees. Then we made our way to the lake for mountain views. They played on the beach and climbed fallen trees, for the perfect backdrop! We knew that this session was going to be fun, but we had no idea that life long friendships were in store for us! We walked away from this Lake Wenatchee engagement session even more excited to be a part of their wedding in August!

Pro-tip for couples planning their engagement sessions! Plan it around the timing of either sunset or sunrise! Harsh shadows during high noon can be harsh on faces and can blow out backgrounds. However, when the sun begins to go down, it creates a gorgeous golden glow to skin tones, and the back ground looks stunning! Sunrise or sunset is the perfect time for photos, especially sunrise if you’re planning on taking the photos at a busy location. I know you may be tired, but it’s the perfect way to avoid crowds and people in the background of your photos.
